I am preparing an application for deburring alum die casting part. The flashing can go 20mil to 50 mil. What will be the best tool and spindle to use for that kind of application, and will a FANUC 710ic50 with handling software do the job? Regards

See www.ati-ia.com and www.pushcorp.com for spindle motors. These are the two vendors that Motoman uses on our standard deburring cells. The robot is a DX1350 designed specifically for material removal (DX = Deburring Expert). Feel free to contact me directly at 937.287.5060, or view http://www.motoman.com/products/robots/models/DX1350N.php for more info. Best regards, Erik Nieves - Technology Director

Martin, ATI sells several different types of pneumatic tools for deburring; with compliance built into them. Without knowing all of your details it is hard for me to say that the 710iC is the rught robot, but we use that robot all the time for material handling and deburring. Are you presenting the part to a deburring tool or the deburring tool to the part? Another option from FANUC is the force sensor. We have used it in conjunction with a standard spindle to monitor the force applied to the part and compensate with the robot. Our company, ATI Industrial Automation, has a product that can help you. The Flexdeburr is ideal for the deflashing of die cast aluminum parts. Since the flash can get up to 50 mil, I’d suggest going with the RC-660 as this unit has the most power to cut through heavier materials. Please check our website: www.ati-ia.com for deburring tools and let me know if you need more assistance. Although we are somewhat familiar with Fanuc and know they produce quality products, we cannot say how well the 710ic50 and handling software will work for a deburring operation. This question would best be discussed with one of their robot specialists.
