Constraints on image collection in manufacturing has become a driver for synthetic images, whether it be disruption to manufacturing itself or introduction of new product types. For deep learning applications, the intelligence is artificial, so why not artificial images too? Synthetic images can offer additional model robustness in terms of image capture, defect variability and even background independence.
