Stepper Drives
Stepper drives are a component of a stepper motor that receive step and direction signals. In this system, the indexer or positioning control sends pulses to the stepper drive, and the stepper drive converts those pulses into electrical signals for the stepper motor. Performance for your stepper motor can be measured by the flow of current from the stepper drive to the motor, with higher outputs resulting from higher levels of torque rather than speed.
Stepper drives are typically made up of an electric motor and speed controller that communicate in order to adjust operating speeds. However, they can also consist of a constant-speed motor and continuously adjustable speed-changing device. Some drives even include an on-board oscillator to support external analogs.
Use a stepper drive to collect feedback on your stepper motor's speed and torque. This information will allow you to achieve optimal motor performance.
