Parallel (Delta)
Delta robots, also known as parallel or spider robots, are robots whose base is connected to jointed parallelograms. These parallelograms move in a single end of arm tooling (EOAT) device, within a dome-shaped workspace. This type of robot is well-known in the industrial field for its ability to execute minute, precise motions.
Delta robots are primarily used when you need to produce groups of objects and those objects need to be placed in an assembly pattern or in a container. Alongside vision technologies, delta robots can identify and select a range of object colors, shapes, and sizes and pick and place working based on a programmed pattern or design.
These robots can work with more than 100 parts per minute. A major selling point for a delta robot is that its heavy motor is attached to its frame. This allows its moving parts to be extremely light in comparison.
Delta robots are commonly used in:
- packing
- high-precision assembly operations
- medical/pharmaceutical operations
- food processing
- cosmetics
- soldering
- adhesive dispensing
